Professional studios prefer to have lights suspended
to eliminate the clutter of light stands and power cords.
The Master Rail System uses 2 "fixed" parallel
front-to-back ceiling mounted rails that connect with wheel sets that "float"
light rails. Light lifters (shown below) have support springs that allow for
easy height adjustment of suspended lights. The lifters ride the rails on
"trucks" to allow for smooth lateral movement of the lights. Power cords also
have "trucks" that allow for cord suspension and unobstructed movement.

The springs in the lifters are set for 10 pound lights.
Most light fixtures require ballast weights to balance with the 10 pound
springs.
The system can support either flash or continuous
lights. Wireless triggering is essential for flash systems. The image
on the left shows ALZO 2000 HMI continuous lights popular with video studios.
